Purpose of the Award Magistrate Judge David H. Bartick epitomized civility and professionalism in the practice of law, both as an attorney and as a United States Magistrate Judge. The District Court recognizes his legacy with the “Hon. David H. Bartick Award for Civility and Professionalism” to serve as a perpetual reminder to the bar of the importance of professionalism and civility in the practice of law, and to motivate current practitioners to conform their practice of law to the model set by Judge Bartick.

Selection Panel

The following individuals (or their designees) will select the annual recipient of the Hon. David H. Bartick Award for Civility and Professionalism:

1. Chief District Court Judge
2. Presiding Magistrate Judge
3. Executive Director, Federal Defenders of San Diego, Inc.
4. United States Attorney
5. Lawyer Representative Chair
6. Federal Bar Association President

The Chief District Court Judge shall either oversee the selection process or designate another panel member to perform this role.
