It is hard to believe my first term as President is almost over, it has been a very gratifying year. I have been honored and privileged to serve this association during my term. Throughout this entire year, I have been continually amazed at the dedication and efforts that our board and committee members put into this association. The passion and energy everyone has put forth is quite contagious. Our board has worked together through many issues and though we don’t always agree, we always support one another.
Together, we have accomplished a lot since our 50th CALSPro Conference back in October. I am quite proud of what we have accomplished. We successfully held our first CCPS on-line workshop, which enabled members to take the workshop in the comfort of their home or office. Our legislative committee has constantly been on alert and watching our backs, as well as looking for opportunities to ensure registered process servers and photocopiers remain important and relevant. Our membership committee, as always, has worked hard to add new members to our ranks. Newsletters and blogs have been a great source of information and value to our members. Still to come, our conference committee is preparing an outstanding conference this year that I’m sure you won’t want to miss. I personally can’t wait!!
I am constantly reminded of the dedication and drive of our past presidents, Rosenthal recipients, board members, officers and longtime members. If not for their past efforts, I truly believe we wouldn’t be here as an values association today.
I want to extend a personal thank you to Mike Belote, Jenny Blevins, Stephanie Schoen and the rest of the CAMS team for their tremendous support keeping our association on the right track.
I look forward to seeing you at conference in Newport Beach and having some big fun with my CALSPro family.

We are just a few months away from conference and we are excited to announce that this year’s conference will be held at the beautiful Renaissance Newport Beach Hotel. The hotel is just a few miles from Fashion Island, a hop skip and jump from Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm, so bring the whole family and enjoy sunny Southern California and all it has to offer.
We will start Friday off with the Jack C. Janney Memorial Golf Tournament. For those not playing golf, we are looking for something fun for you to do as well, so stay tuned. Enjoy live music and cocktails during our Friday evening cocktail reception. Afterwards we plan to head across the street to Classic Q for some fun. Classic Q has pool tables, dart boards and tables for us to gather around and catch up.
This year’s main guest speaker will be Amber S. Healy of Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo. Amber will bring us up to date on the Dynamex decision and how it will affect our industry. This is a topic you won’t want to miss. Our other speakers will be industry related, Tristar Computer Solutions, Legal Connect, Process Server’s Toolbox, ServeNow and more.
This year will be our second year that elections will be done online. If you, or a member you know, are interested in running for the Board, submit your information when the nomination email is sent out. CALSPro can only continue to grow and prosper with new faces and fresh ideas.
Mark your calendar now and make your plans to join us October 4-6 in sunny Southern California. This will be a conference you won’t soon forget!

CALSPro recently celebrated its 50th Annual Conference this year in Sacramento. We had a wonderful time and many great photos were captured to commemorate the event. The Historical committee has also provided CALSPro members a glimpse into our rich history in their own slideshow they put together this past year. Relive some old memories as you view the photos of the men and women who have helped shape our industry through the years!
These photos are available now in our Members only section of the website. You can now download and save some of your favorite photos in both PDF or PowerPoint format.

Ways to Participate at our Annual Conference Without Attending
By Kristian Pujol, Membership Chair
With our 50th Annual Conference just two weeks away, we are looking forward to seeing as many of our members as possible in Sacramento, especially some of the 50 new members who joined this year alone! Come and see what we have done in the past 50 years and learn and discuss what the next agenda items are for the future of our industry. It is going to be a remarkable conference with many relevant business presentations, historical exhibits, legal updates, notable industry speakers (including The Chief Justice of California!), education seminars, networking opportunities, roundtable discussions (including one exclusively for Copy Services) and, of course, our formal banquet and Rosenthal award presentation.
If you are unable to attend our 50th celebration conference this year, you can either wait until 2043 (for our 75th) or you can still participate today by sponsoring an event or providing a donation for conference! Take advantage of this opportunity to help, give back, and support your association while promoting and branding your business name at the same time!
There are a number of sponsorship options and marketing opportunities available below:
Donate any amount. Click here or go the Sponsorship Opportunities page on Conference brochure (Refer to page 7), write the amount, and send it in!
Sponsor our annual Golf Tournament at conference (Refer to page 4).

As you can see there are numerous sponsorship options with varying amounts for everyone. Any amount is highly appreciated, and every donation will be acknowledged at conference. We thank you and your company in advance!
This year, as a CALSPro member you will receive a copy of our 50th Anniversary History Book put together by the Historical Preservation committee and its hardcopy printing is being sponsored by Janney & Janney. Thank you both!
The Conference committee, Historical Preservation committee, Newsletter Committee, and all CALSPro committees, have worked very hard to bring this special 50th Anniversary conference to fruition. All board and committee members not only pay their yearly dues, attend conferences, and provide sponsorships, but also donate countless hours of their time and resources in supporting this non-profit association that exists for the main purpose of safeguarding our legal support industry!
If you do not have the time, please at least donate a dime!
We understand if you might not have the ability to attend conference or join a committee, but we hope and encourage every member to still participate by supporting CALSPro’s 50th Birthday Celebration with a conference sponsorship (any of the listed above) and, of course, with a continued active membership in 2019.
We sincerely thank all the participants, members, and vendors in advance!

As we approach the annual conference, I have refocused my energy towards attracting vendors and sponsors for our event. The money contributed by these companies goes directly towards our bottom line and is a key component in keeping conference fees and membership dues affordable. This year, vendors and sponsors will be the reason we do or don’t meet our budget goals.
Balanced budget and lower costs for our members are the first two “wins” in the title of this article. The third win is for our vendors and sponsors.
I put together a list of reasons CALSPro member companies and vendors would want to be a sponsor for the annual conference and throughout the year. As you review this list, think about a vendor you believe might benefit from sponsoring CALSPro. Also, think of your own company and the benefits you could gain by doing business with other members or by improving your own brand image.
Top Reasons to Become a Sponsor or Vendor Member
Raise Brand Awareness
Companies that want to grow or remain on top recognize the importance of their image in the marketplace. Businesses sponsor events because it puts their brand in the spotlight. It creates positive PR and raises awareness of the organization as a whole while enhancing brand credibility.
Sponsoring has the potential to differentiate one brand against other competitors who don’t offer monetary support. It can demonstrate to employees, clients, and business partners that the company and its leadership team are dedicated to the industry.
- 91% of global consumers are likely to switch brands to one associated with a good cause, given comparable price and quality
- 61% of consumers are willing to try a new brand, or one they’ve never heard of, because of its association with a particular cause
- 44% of US consumers said they would be willing to reward companies that give back to society by paying more for their goods and services
Events such as annual conferences and educational seminars cater to niche audiences. Sponsors are recognized throughout these events in brochures, banners, website updates and social media posts.
Think about the amount of time you normally spend hunting for 10 qualified leads. How about 20, 50, or 100? Events are great places to find new clients and non-competing businesses you can collaborate with in the future. By attending in person as a vendor/sponsor, you gain opportunities to engage one-on-one with people looking for relevant product solutions.
Giving money towards something important to a client shows the client their vendor values their business relationship. Supporting an industry association enhances a company’s credibility in a way that can spread a positive attitude within their target audience and help them connect with a new market.
